Hey, Captains! Today we are going to be taking a look at the new Evangelion collab weapon: Lance of Longinus introduced in v4.5 alongside Asuka and the Children's set. The Lance of Longinus is a Physical-based DMG Lance-type weapon.. In this guide, we will review the weapon's functions, which valkyries would enjoy the weapon the most, and how it fares in today's meta.
5★ ATK: 287; CRIT: 21
Etz Hayim, or the Tree of Life gave birth to the cosmos, and from its branches, Fruits of Life and Fruits of Knowledge, were where all life including human started. This is the reason why this lance, derived from the tree's roots, has the power to erase all living things.
★ Stats below are all Lv.50 figures.
Death of the Messiah
[SP: 0] [CD: 25] Unleash a thrust dealing 50% ATK of Physical DMG. Against enemies not in invincibility or Iron Body, this attack triggers a Throw to control enemies and deal 90% + 1,400.0% ATK of Physical DMG. During certain enemy moves and when the active button is flashing, a Throw counter can be performed unconditionally, controlling enemies and dealing 20% + 800.0% ATK of Physical DMG (does not reset CD). The last hit of the Throw deals 50% bonus damage to shields. Asuka equip bonus: Charged ATK, “Mind, Matching, Moment”, and Ultimate finisher deal 15.0% bonus Total DMG and have 15% bonus Crit Rate.
Wielder deals 30.0% bonus Physical DMG. Throws mark enemies for 30s (can be refreshed). When Combo or Charged ATKs from a teammate hit marked enemies, Lance of Longinus emerges to assist, dealing 100.0% ATK of Physical DMG (DMG source: teammate). Team-shared CD: 3s. Asuka equip bonus: Lance of Longinus' assist attacks restore 3.0 SP for her.
Death of the Messiah
Interrupts enemy, deals Physical DMG, hits shields hard, and provides Crit Rate and TDM bonuses to Asuka. Longinus is capable of Throw, thus interrupting and injuring enemies. Its last hit also comes with an extra 50% DMG bonus against shields, thus enhancing its shield-breaking capabilities.
And like all Lance-type weapons, Lance of Longinus comes with a “counter-react” weapon skill.
Longinus also has additional passive buffs if the wielder is Asuka. It provides a decent 15% Crit Rate and TDM bonus each for Asuka's main sources of DMG: Charged ATK, “Mind, Matching, Moment” SP skill, and Ultimate finisher. This increases the power output of Asuka while also increasing the consistency of Crit atks.
Provides wielder with Physical buff and Asuka with SP regen. Longinus' 2nd ability provides the wielder with a strong 30% Physical DMG passive. Additionally, Throws mark enemies for a long 30s (mark in picture provided below).
While marked, if the enemy is hit by any Charged/Combo ATKs from teammates, Longinus will inflict some extra damage (CD 3s). These assist attacks count as attacks from the teammate currently active.
While this extra damage is barely of any mention, it is its SP regen capabilities that are worth noting. If the wielder of Longinus is Asuka, she gains 3 SP every time the assist attacks from Longinus launches. This is rather important in time constrained stages such as Memorial Arena where Asuka needs to build up SP asap for her ult.
To see how well Longinus does, it's pitted against other Lances recommended for Physical Lance users.
Put to the test
Lance of Longinus' DMG performance is tested against the other Lances in the chart above. Since there are only two Physical Lance users at the time of writing this guide, Asuka and Bright Knight: Excelsis, there are only a total of 6 tests. The Endothermic Lance VF is also tested due to it being the best versatile F2P lance.

BKE Test Scores
Upon testing, it can be observed that the Gacha weapons do make a difference; Endothermic VF's DMG performance pales in comparison to both Lance of Longinus and Hler's Serenity. In Asuka's tests, Longinus outperforms Hler's Serenity and Endothermic VF by 7.2% and 25% respectively. Hler's Serenity can do almost as good as Longinus in Asuka's hands. And in BKE's tests, Hler's Serenity outperforms Longinus and Endothermic VF by 10% and 51% respectively. Hler's Serenity has a rather strong lead in terms of DMG performance than Longinus for BKE.
Asuka and Bright Knight: Excelsis (BKE)
The Lance of Longinus is designed as Asuka's signature weapon. It enhances her main sources of outputting DMG, specifically her Charged ATKs and Ultimate ATKs. In addition to the DMG buffs and Crit Rate buff, Longinus also provides Asuka with 3 SP every time its Assist ATK is launched.
Provided is a sample video gameplay of Asuka utilizing Longinus:
Memorial Arena: vs DXY - 31253
In the case of BKE, Longinus makes for a good substitute. Its good Physical DMG buff and extra shield-break DMG helps BKE output only yields about a 10% loss in DMG output compared to Hler's Serenity.
The Lance of Longinus is a powerful Physical-based Lance-type weapon. It's capable of providing Physical DMG, TDM, Crit Rate, and SP Regen buffs to hosts. In addition, it has some decent shield-breaking capabilities coupled with a unique Assist attack feature. If you have BKE but not Hler's Serenity, you can use Longinus as a good substitute. More importantly, it is highly recommended to get your hands on the Lance of Longinus if you desire to use Asuka. Not to mention, Longinus will never return to Honkai Impact 3rd after its supply in v4.5 goes away.
