Dark Star is a new Heavy Weapon introduced in version 4.5. The Heavy Weapon is designed to output plenty of Physical DMG, bleed enemies, all the while supporting the team. This guide will teach you just how this weapon functions and how it can support Physical Teams.
5★ ATK: 287; CRIT: 19
AE Scientists discovered long ago that apart from gravitational manipulation, force fields also had great tactical potential in physical confrontations. This destructive cannon proved it to be true.
★ Stats below are all Lv.50 figures.
Charged cannon. 1st Sequence: Single shot. 2nd Sequence: Empowered double shot. 3rd Sequence: Super-powered triple shot. Team deals 15.0% more Physical DMG to bleeding enemies (cannot stack).
[SP: 12] [CD: 25s] Strike the target to deal 400.0% ATK of Physical DMG within 4m and create a Umbral Zone around the target lasting 7s, dealing 30% ATK of Physical DMG per second to them and bleeding them to further deal 15.0% ATK of Physical DMG per 0.3s for 5s (can be refreshed). Enemy kills within the zone proc 400.0% ATK of Physical DMG in a large area and expand the range of the zone by 1m (6m max).
Provides team Physical DMG buffing bonus while facing bleeding foes.
The passive buff the weapon provides is alright by itself. Just by equipping this, Physical teams do better against those that bleed.
Creates a bleeding AOE that deals plenty of Physical DMG and can expand from 4m to 5m and then 6m.
Mihoyo has finally added another dedicated bleeding skill. The AOE, while it has a long CD and decent SP-cost, inflicts Physical DMG that counts as bleeding. This skill synergizes well with its Starblast passive effect that buffs the team.
In addition, any kills you make inside the Umbral Zone expands its AOE, thus invoking even more bleeding in a larger range.
And last but not least, the AOE's hits do count as direct hits by the host. Therefore, it can be used to reapply certain buffs/debuffs such as Newton B!
Due to the supportive nature of Dark Star, we'll be comparing a Physical team's DMG performance depending on which support Heavy Weapon is equipped.
To compare the DMG performances of each Heavy weapon, they'll all be put to the test! There will be a total of 4 tests. The fourth test is to see how well the new bleeding stigmata set synergizes against the other common support sets.
Some factors will be fixed:
All teams are the same except with DK.
There is no 3rd teammate nor ELF to decrease variables.
DK has Gustav TM + Newton B for three tests and Holmes for the final test
The team tests will be conducted against a Chariot within only 1 cycle: DK builds a bit of combo for 5s and uses wep's active skill, NS switches in, and she ults until it wears off.
If DK has Newton B, she procs it first and waits until Newton B CD is half way in
NS's QTE is turned off
Provided is the video to how each of the tests were conducted. As mentioned before, DK procs Newton B (if any) and builds up combo for 5s (for leader skill). This is then proceeded by SA QTEing and Ulting as NS switches in to enter Burst Mode for dmg.
Team DMG comparisons
One thing we can take away immediately is the undisputed fact that Briareus-EX is the best among them with its better Impair capabilities. We can also observe that Dark Star, with or without Holmes, still falls behind in team DMG output than Vikrant. Based on these tests, Dark Star is a weaker support Heavy weapon.
Drive Kometa and Valkyrie Chariot
Dark Star is designed for support. Therefore, it makes sense for either DK or VC to equip it. DK is the top Bronya support while VC has a gathering ult that also bleeds and can be used with or without Dark Star's weapon's active skill being activated. And together with its newly released Bleed-support stigmata set, Holmes, the weapon's support capabilities can be heightened. The following are sample videos showcasing Dark Star.

Unless you are a whale and wish to get the best of scores, not really. At the time of writing this guide, before the release of v4.6 in Global, there really isn't an incentive to pull for Dark Star. Yes it's great for bleeding and can affect multiple enemies at once. However, Vikrant can also do that with weakening and even provides team TDM, a better support buff than team Physical DMG. Although Holmes is designed alongside Dark Star to provide better bleed-support, the generic Gustav TM + Newton B is just as capable if not more due to their versatility. However, Mihoyo has revealed 2 new types of weather for v4.6 called Bloodlust and Bloodbane that Dark Star would enjoy.
The few advantages Dark Star has over the other Support Heavy Weapons are its large AOE and its support effect can be applied in faceoffs against multiple enemies without needing to take up the slot of impairment. So I recommend to both Dolphins and F2P players that Dark Star is not mandatory but a desirable weapon geared towards high scoring players.
